Pepsi challenges Pepsi via legal challenge
Looks like the Pepsi Challenge has a new contestant: Pepsi. A distributor from Atlanta Georgia is being sued by PepsiCo for selling the Mexican version of its product in the US. Why would someone import Mexican Pepsi to the US, you ask? It’s made with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.
Mexican versions of Coca-Cola and Pepsi have found a niche market in the United States both with Hispanic and non-Hispanic customers primarily because they use cane sugar as a sweetener. Most major beverage-makers switched to high-fructose corn syrup in the 1980s for their U.S. sodas, but the Mexican government has adopted policies that have encouraged the use of cane sugar in Mexico.

Wouldn’t you like to be a pepper too?
Best marketing gamble ever.
Earlier this year, soda manufacturer Dr Pepper promised to give one of its soft drinks to everyone in America if Guns N’ Roses managed to release its long-awaited Chinese Democracy album before the end of 2008. Anyone in the country was said to be eligible for the offer excluding former GNR members Slash and Buckethead.
Now that Axl and company have set a release date of November 23, Dr Pepper says it will make good on the offer. Those who wish to claim their free soda can go to the Dr. Pepper website on November 23 and enter some of their personal information in return for a coupon for one 20-ounce drink that should arrive within the following 4-6 weeks. They’ll expire in February 2009.
