The Board of Trustees of the Joshua Hyde Public Library would like to state its opposition to Question 1, which will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot. Question 1 seeks to repeal the state income tax, which funds 40 percent of the state budget. If approved, the measure goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2009. The loss of such a large part of the budget would mean funding for all municipal services, such as schools, fire, police, and, of course, libraries would be drastically cut.

It’s time for genuine reform of U.S. health care system
Most people can agree that the current health care system is severely broken and is in need of significant reform. We all have many issues that we find important when determining whom to vote for in this election and my goal here is not to show a preference for one candidate over the other in general. However, on this particular issue the advantages of one proposal are obvious.
