Review - The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor
THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR [PG-13]
review by Robert Newton
Forgive the lazy allusion to the undead, but the figurative and actual thrill ride that is Universal’s (Not Indiana Jones) The Mummy franchise shows no signs of dying, at least not yet. The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor perfectly serviceable, long overdue third installment in the series, which started with The Mummy in 1999 and continued in The Mummy Returns in 2001, again features Brendan Fraser (fresh off the 3-D surprise Journey To The Center Of The Earth) as renowned adventurer Rick O’Connell. Since last Rick was re-slaying the evil Egyptian mummy Imhotep, he has settled into a comfortable home life with wife Evie (Maria Bello), their son, Alex (Luke Ford) having set off for a life of his own. In other words, he and Evie are bored as hell, and they’re not going to take it anymore.

Review - Swing Vote
SWING VOTE [PG-13]
review by Kilian Melloy
Imagine a feature film version of “The Simpsons.” Oops, that’s already been done… well, imagine it anyway, only with the title Swing Vote, and featuring live actors.
Now image culling out the whole Simpson clan except for Homer and Lisa.
Now cast Kevin Costner as Homer and Madeline Carroll as Lisa, relocate them to a trailer park in Texico, New Mexico, and give them new names… say, Bud and Molly.
The “Simpsons” comparison is a kind way of saying that we have seen this movie before, and sometimes not even at the Cineplex. That, and Swing Vote ain’t Kevin Costner’s Bulworth, which is a masterpiece in comparison; nor is it Costner’s Bob Roberts, which is a cult classic.

Review - When Did You Last See Your Father?
WHEN DID YOU LAST SEE YOUR FATHER? [PG-13]
review by Robin Clifford
Blake Morrison (Colin Firth) has had a love-hate relationship with his father, Arthur (Jim Broadbent), since he was a child. Now, his general practitioner dad has become a patient himself, diagnosed as terminally ill with cancer. Blake remembers his father, his flaws, foibles, indiscretions and browbeating as he comes to terms with the man who influenced him, good or bad.
This mixed bag film has several quality elements and one major problem, and that problem is Colin Firth (Mamma Mia!). As the older Blake, he is a blank cipher who has little expression and looks as if he is distressed, almost constipated. Firth is usually likable as an actor, so the script and director must take some responsibility for his misstep here; Firth’s Blake is central to the film so the lack of personality or character is too noticeable.
Better, though, is […]

Review - Priceless
PRICELESS [PG-13]
review by Michael Wood
Priceless (or Hors de Prix in its langue maternelle) is the new and charmant French romantic comedy from director Pierre Salvadori and starring the beautiful and talented Audrey Tautou of Amélie.
Tautou’s love interest is played by the equally endearing, though unknown stateside, Gad Elmaleh. On screen, the couple is luminescent, making Priceless a deliciously flirtatious adventure through the currency of love.
Set in the très riche Biarritz, in southern France, the film concerns Jean, a pathetic bell boy/dog walker/bartender for the local luxury hotel. Jean meets gold digger Irène (Tautou) during a passionate one-night-stand when she mistakes him for one of the resort’s wealthy patrons.

It’s like Police Academy but starring Dirty Harry
This is the sort of sophomoric, thin blue line bullshit that fosters distrust of authority within the general public. When it comes from the Chief of Police of the second largest city in New England, as opposed to the Sheriff in a small mid-west county, you’re pretty much screwed.
This may be difficult to comprehend if you never wore the uniform and pinned on the badge, but given the choice between the viability of a business and public safety, I will first and foremost address police officer safety.

Excess Baggage
My favorite airline just announced that they will be doubling the fee for checking a second bag to $50. Which will be bad news for all you over packers. It seems less is more less, money that is.
I am notorious for under packing. On the mini vacation I just returned from with my mom. Some […]

The Best Search Engine Marketing Program Available 2008
Chris Johnson is a colleauge of mine at HubSpot.
Here’s a rough transcript of a recent call:
CJ: Hello Mr. X. You recently did a search at Google for “The Best Search Engine Marketing Program Available 2008“. It looks like you found us. Are you trying to optimize something?Prospect: blah blah blah.
Two things that made this blogworthy, atleast in my opinion.
That’s Long Tail. We certainly didn’t set out to rank for that “search phrase”. It happened, though. I’d imagine that noone will ever type that phrase again. But, when we add up all of the 1 time relevant phrases that people type, it starts to add up to a lot of visitors and leads.
Google Delivers “the Best”. It’s interesting how people ask Google, a computer that crunches our links to determine quality, for the “best” solutions. During Mark Roberge’s presentation on SEO yesterday at […]
