Encyclical marks 40th anniversary

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s encyclical, “Humanae Vitae” (”Of Human Life”). Like Christ, he affirmed God’s design of marriage for the human race: a union between one man and one woman whose love is permanent, faithful and life-giving. The pope condemned as sinful the use of artificial birth control and sterilization. He warned that separating sex from procreation would lead people to use sex for pleasure alone. This would dishonor both them and God.
