Encyclical marks 40th anniversary
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s encyclical, “Humanae Vitae” (”Of Human Life”). Like Christ, he affirmed God’s design of marriage for the human race: a union between one man and one woman whose love is permanent, faithful and life-giving. The pope condemned as sinful the use of artificial birth control and sterilization. He warned that separating sex from procreation would lead people to use sex for pleasure alone. This would dishonor both them and God.

Reader is going to miss Elite Billiards
I laughed, after I shook my head in disapproval, when I read about the Hanover Theatre’s purchase of the Goral Building. For years, my husband and I, along with our friends, have enjoyed going to Elite Billiards, one of the businesses being evicted from the Goral Building. SEX AND THE CITY: THE MOVIE [R]
review by Robert Nesti
Carrie Bradshaw (a.k.a. Sarah Jessica Parker) always looks pretty in pink, or in any color that costume designer Patricia Field serves up for the actress in Sex And The City: The Movie. She looks especially stunning in a wedding dress, designed by Vivienne Westwood, for a Vogue spread that’s given her for her own wedding because she looks so perfect in it. That fairy tale wedding to Mr. Big (Chris Noth turns out to be a nightmare when (plot disclosure) he jilts her and sends this movie in a downward spiral it never appears to recover from. The movie turns out to be more soapy than sexy: perhaps Sexless In The City would be a more apt title.

Hugging the shore
Massachusetts has taken a bold step with the passage of the Massachusetts Oceans Act, becoming one of the first states to move toward a comprehensive plan for management of its coastal waters. On paper, the law appears to strike a reasonable balance between the legitimate need to preserve maritime resources and commercial development along the coast and offshore.
