Homing in on housing

After many years of dire neglect, homelessness has suddenly become the center of attraction. At least three current initiatives aim to place homeless individuals and families in permanent housing. Two programs focus on Worcester and its regions, and the third is statewide. All three recommend the relatively new “housing first” concept. The Home Again program, sponsored by The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts and managed by Community Healthlink, is the most promising.

Dear Mr. & Mr. Weinstein:
In that you did not take the time to screen in advance your latest pop culture spoof, Superhero Movie, I think it appropriate that someone like myself who was unfortunate enough to have to endure it opening weekend without the benefit of ether, vodka or a series of anesthetizing mallet strikes to the skull should not have to take the time to cover its release properly, either. That is why I am sitting in the back row of my local googolplex and reclaiming the two hours I lost watching it by writing this pissive entirely on my BlackBerry.

Saving Zimbabwe

It has been painful to watch the terrible decline of Zimbabwe, a country so rich in human and natural resources. Perhaps that is why the elections scheduled today still raise hopes that President Robert Mugabe’s destructive rule can be brought to an end, despite the certainty that the vote will be neither free nor fair.
