Senate should pass hand-held cell-phone ban

This is regarding an editorial, “Just hang up” (Telegram & Gazette, Jan. 18). I seriously question the debate our Massachusetts House had on using hand-held cell phones while driving. There’s no debate that individuals do have rights, but when you elect to live in civilization, you must consider the rights of others, including their right to safety.

Pork ’stimulus’

The evolution of a plausible bipartisan economic “stimulus” package into a pork-barrel free-for-all is another textbook case of why the federal government can’t get out from under the $9 trillion mountain of debt it has accumulated. The Congress, which has dawdled for years over health care, Social Security and immigration, can act with lightning speed when it suits its purposes.

Much has been written lately about the actual cost to comply with the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s next five-year storm-water permit. I have been looking to replace my leather strappy platforms that my lovely dog chewed (dogs always eat your favorites). I had that pair for ten years. I believe that justifies spending the money on a good pair. But which pair? I’m not use to spending more then $20 for shoes. Please help me decide…
