I recently read about the city of Worcester not planning to open its nine swimming pools this year due to financial constraints. I grew up in the city and anxiously awaited the use of the pools during the summer.

Legislators should vote on marriage, quickly
Here we are again, getting ready to see if our legislators are going to get the business done or not. On May 9, the legislators can bring the people’s business of what we want marriage to be about on the voting table. Or they can try to stall for time, trying to twist the arms of their colleagues, and exhaust ordinary people like myself who just want them to take a vote and be done with it on May 9.

Adults must set example for youths
An Associated Press article (Telegram & Gazette, April 14) reported that “abstinence-until-marriage programs were a failure.” The abstinence education programs are good in themselves. It is our culture and the silence of religious leaders that are the problem. Young minds are influenced by the example of adults.

Pension maneuver?
Only in Massachusetts could a legislative aide be fired and end up with a pension four times what it would have been had she resigned. The state’s pension watchdog agency should scrutinize the maneuver and set things right.
